The burgers are amazing and their black bean/veggie and impossible burgers are amazing! the fries are good but with the Cajun garlic powder they are even better! they also have curry ketchup and it actually wasnβt that bad. Definitely recommend for a burger place!
Overview
Walking into Relish Downtown on a busy evening in Gainesville feels like slipping into a place that already knows you. Iβve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after work when the downtown streets start buzzing, and the experience has been consistently easygoing and satisfying. Located at 201 SE 1st St, Gainesville, FL 32601, United States, itβs one of those diners where locals bring visiting friends because they know it wonβt disappoint.
The menu leans into comfort food with personality. Burgers are the clear stars, and not just because of their size. The beef is cooked with precision, juicy without being greasy, and the toppings actually feel thought out rather than piled on for effect. One of my regular orders is what the staff proudly call house favorite, a burger that balances sharp cheddar, caramelized onions, and a tangy relish that cuts through the richness. A line cook once explained that they grind and season the meat daily, a process recommended by food safety guidelines from the USDA to ensure freshness and consistent texture. You can taste that care in every bite.
Beyond burgers, the menu includes creative sandwiches, loaded fries, and vegetarian options that donβt feel like afterthoughts. Iβve brought friends who donβt eat meat, and they were genuinely surprised by how satisfying the plant-based choices were. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, nearly 62% of diners now look for restaurants that offer flexible menu options, and this spot clearly understands that shift without losing its core identity.
What really keeps people coming back, though, is the atmosphere. The dining room is casual, with an open layout that invites conversation. On one visit, I chatted with a couple from Orlando who said they stopped in after reading reviews praising the friendly service. They werenβt wrong. Servers here strike that rare balance of being attentive without hovering. Orders come out accurately, and if something takes longer, they explain why instead of leaving you guessing. That transparency builds trust, especially in a time when diners value honest communication as much as good food.
The location adds another layer to the experience. Being right downtown means you can pair a meal with a walk through nearby shops or catch live music afterward. For students, professionals, and families alike, itβs a convenient meeting point. Iβve noticed during lunch hours that tables fill with coworkers splitting fries and debating burger toppings, while evenings bring a more relaxed crowd easing into the night. This versatility shows an understanding of the community it serves.
From a quality standpoint, ingredients and preparation matter here. Research published by Harvardβs School of Public Health highlights how sourcing fresh ingredients and minimizing overprocessing improves both flavor and nutritional value. While no diner meal pretends to be health food, knowing that a restaurant respects those principles adds confidence to the experience. Still, itβs fair to say that during peak hours, wait times can stretch a bit. Thatβs the trade-off for popularity, and staff are usually upfront about it.
Reviews around town often mention consistency, and that matches my own experience. Whether dining in or grabbing takeout, the food tastes the same, portion sizes stay generous, and service remains warm. In an industry where turnover and shortcuts are common, that level of reliability speaks volumes about management and training. Itβs the kind of place that earns its reputation one plate at a time, not through hype but through everyday execution.

This is one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Easily moved into my top 5 favorite burger places. Fries were really good too. I will definitely be back.
Just had lunch for the first time at Relish and I LOVED IT! Kaylin on register was 120% delightful, charming, and friendly. Anton was also so engaging and friendly. The burgers and sweet potato fries were *chefs kiss* - kinda like a homemade vibe but with way fancier buns. Love the fixinβs assembly line style. Music selection was great, atmosphere was chill. Comfy booths to sit in. I will definitely be making this a regular stop. Thanks for such a pleasant lunch experience!
Good burgers with free toppings and sauces , such as peanut butter and strawberry jam. You get to choose what goes on your burger subway style.
This was our first time at Relish and the concept is pretty cool! You get to customize your burger similar to a Subway, which is fun. * Highlights: The garlic mayo was delicious. The unique ketchup option (I can't recall the name) was also a good choice. * Disappointments: The chicken sandwich patty was a bit processed, and I was expecting thicker burgers. * Service: The staff was friendly and service was quick. Overall, it was a decent experience. We'd be interested in trying it again and exploring more of the menu options."
My husband and I had a craving for a burger and fries after work so we ordered from the app. I ordered a single well-done cheeseburger with Swiss cheese, and my husband got a well-done double cheeseburger also with Swiss plus large fries on the side. The order cost about $30 with a tip, and it was ready in about 20 minutes which was enough time to get parking. I used my phone number for the order, so I was automatically texted when the order was ready for pickup - pretty convenient for people that lose track of time. Parking during the dinnertime crowd is a bit rough, but we were lucky and able to find a spot right in front of Dragonfly Sushi, which is 1 storefront away from Relish. Street parking is metered until 5 pm, and there are also free 15-minute spots for food pickup. The food was excellent. 1000% satisfied the burger craving. The only very minor complaint that we had was that the "large" fries were underwhelming (it was about 1 cup of fries?) and could probably be considered closer to a small. However, what the fries order lacked in quantity, it made up for in quality - crispy on the outside and soft / cooked on the inside. Other than the size of the fries order, everything else was perfect and tasted delicious. Best Monday night burger in Gainesville we'll be back again!
I don't say this lightly. This is one of the best burgers I've had in the country. Excellent beefy flavor, pick your topping on your bun while it cooks. fries were perfect also. Highly recommend this place.
